S Bodrum, located in Yalıkavak, stands on a 13-decare land filled with large rocks, bushes, olive, and turpentine trees. Situated adjacent to a busy street, the property offers a stark contrast to the bustling urban environment. To block the street noise that reaches the upper levels of the plot due to the sloping topography, the main goal of the project was to create a serene and harmonious village-like environment shaped with natural elements. To achieve this, an old goat road is used as a starting point and transformed it into a curved-organic interior road. This planning led to varied interior plots for each house with varied sloped garden areas. While offering unique layouts which create a non-repetitive village like environment, the repetitive units are planned to maintain an overall design language and harmony. The houses were strategically placed on the side closest to the street, with limited window openings and thick walls acting as auditory and visual barriers. As a result, the main garden-terrace areas were planned as sloping inner gardens, providing a peaceful and private space for outdoor activities.
Each house comprises two main units: the living unit and the sleeping unit. The living units as stone buildings are horizontally oriented to the inner gardens following the natural slope of the land. The sleeping units are placed perpendicular to the slope, defining the boundaries of the inner gardens and serving as a buffer with its neighbors. These two units are projected at different levels according to its location and connected with green roofed steel structures defining entrance, kitchen, and secondary spaces. This arrangement not only adds architectural interest but also ensures functional cohesion between the different sections of each house. The overall result is a harmonious and inviting residential environment that beautifully incorporates the existing natural landscape.
